Commercial Projects
Julia has created a number of personalised commissioned works for commercial clients working to a specified brief.
An excellent example is Julia's recent work for the Dakota Hotel in Edinburgh. The brief was to create work in a style of the old Travel Posters advertising Edinburgh and the connection to the historic mid-century Dakota aeroplanes, encouraging luxurious and nostalgic ways of travel. Colour scheme was specified to suit the new redesigned look of the Dakota Restaurant.
If you have a chance to see the work in situation, you will be mesmerised by the scale and ambient atmosphere created by the canvases! You can do it by booking a delicious meal or even treat yourself to a short stay at the Hotel. The Penthouse with the views of the Forth Bridge is highly recommended.

Plan
Contact Julia with details and images, giving as much information as possible. State any size requirements, medium used (watercolour, acrylic or oil), framed or unframed. Also, if you have a budget limit or it is time critical, please specify. Send photos of the subject matter, or reference to past pieces you like. Julia can meet you at the location of your venue and take photos, make sketches on the day and do further research where appropriate.
-
Design
Julia will then do pencil sketches and colour studies, for discussion and approval for commercial clients requiring complex composition designs. Tweaks can be done to the design, size and detail at this stage. A quote and timeframe will be given. Once the design and price are agreed, a 50% none refundable deposit is needed to confirm the order.
-
Making
Julia will prepare the surface (order a canvas or make it to the size required) and create the painting.
-
Painting process
Julia will go through the painting stages (upscaling the initial sketch, building up the colours, texture, figures, working from the whole to details and then finalising the nuances).
A photo of the finished piece will be emailed to you, unless you prefer to see the work in person in Julia's studio. If you are happy with the painting, Julia will accurately apply protective varnish, let it dry for 24 hours and then your commission is ready! The remaining balance is then requested before the piece is carefully packaged.
